Jamaica Marriage Requirements

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This page is intended to be a reference for heterosexual couples seeking legal married in Jamaica.

For heterosexual couples, Jamaican weddings are legally recognized worldwide.

 

 

There is therefore no need for couples to legally marry in their home countries before their Jamaican wedding.

 

 

Equally, unlike other destination wedding locations, couples do not require a blood test to marry in Jamaica.

 

 

 

 

 

Instead, couples are required to provide the following to obtain a Marriage Licence in Jamaica:


 

 

 

  • A notarized copy of the bride-to-be’s photographic identification.

AND

 

  • A notarized copy of the bride-to-be’s birth certificate

AND

  • A notarized copy of the groom-to-be’s photographic identification.

AND

  • A notarized copy of the groom-to-be’s birth certificate

Examples of photographic identification include a  Passport, Driver’s Licence, Voter Registration Card or Military ID.

 

 

 

 

 

In addition:

 

 

  • Divorcees are required to produce an Original Certificate of Divorce or Divorce Decree.

 

  • Widows or widowers are required to produce a Notarized copy of their deceased spouse’s Death Certificate

 

 

  • Parental consent is required for those under the age of eighteen.

 

 

  • Italian nationals must notify their embassy and a certified copy of their marriage certificate forwarded to their embassy to be legalized and translated

 

 

  • French Canadians need a notarized translated copy of all documents and a photocopy of the original French documents

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hummingbird Hall must receive the specified documents three months prior to the wedding at the latest.


 

Last minute weddings can be accommodated, though couples are advised to make contact as soon as possible.


 

 

 

 

Non-original documents must be notarized by a Notary Public in all cases.
